If you buy a new PC then it will almost always be supplied with a new “Flat Panel” display. Many users are doing “dual display” in order to extend their PC Desktop across two displays or simply replacing a bulky old monitor for a slimmer display to save desk space. Choosing the most appropriate display for your needs is important and there are many considerations to be born in mind:
- Is the new display for home use only or for business or for both?
- Do you prefer WIDESCREEN or NORMAL format (many business/office workers prefer a normal display for the extra depth when working on documents whereas home users like Widescreen for watching movies and gaming)?
- 19″ has become the most popular choice but larger display sizes are available.
- What are you going to look at on the display (if you also want to watch TV, play games or watch movies then you may need a more expensive display that is driven by a dedicated graphics card in your PC)? If you only need a display for office work then a basic flat panel display will usually be adequate.
- If buying a replacement display make sure that the connection type on your PC is compatible with the new display (e.g. DVI or VGA connector/cable needed?).
- Many new displays are available with or without height adjustment which can be important depending on your work location or individual requirements. Alternatively simple display stands are still available.
